Echocardiography, often called an echo test, is a non-invasive imaging test that uses ultrasound waves to create live images of the heart. It helps cardiologists see how well the heart is functioning and spot any abnormalities.

Types of echocardiography include:

Transthoracic Echocardiogram (TTE) – the most common type, done using a probe on the chest.

Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) – a more detailed view using a probe passed through the esophagus.
